EXCITING END TO MATCH
AUSTRALIA-GLAMORGAN DRAW TOURISTS’ DECLARE AT 71 RUNS. COUNTY SIDE BATS BRISKLY. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, August 5 Fine weather prevailed for the continuation of the Australia v. Glamorgan match, but the wicket was again wet when the match was resinned today. Continuing after lunch, the Australians lost one wicket for 71 and declared. Glamorgan replied with 197 for seven wickets, and the match was drawn. The finish was the most exciting of the tour. Before lunch Jackson had given a simple catch, and Bradman, who had been struck on the ankle by ball, limped slightly. The county was set 218 runs to get in 165 minutes, and when stumps were drawn it was only 21 short. Bates and Dyson gave the side a good start until Grimmett came on at 33 and was immediately successful. Fairfax was expensive, and the 100 appeared in 90 minutes, with the loss of two wickets. Bates and Turnbull added 93 before Grimmett effected a separation. Bates batted excellently and Turnbull cleanly, both scoring at a fast pace. The third wicket fell at 152. The batsmen were then dismissed about every 10 runs. They forced the pace, but failed to achieve their objective by a narrow margin. A doctor examined Bradman and found that he had slightly strained a tendon in the foot. The injury is not serious, but a rest is necessary. The scores were: — AUSTRALIA.
