TARANAKI TEAM ON TOUR

THE RUGBY REPRESENTATIVES. MATCH AGAINST WAIKATO TO-DAY (By Wire —Special to News.) j Hamilton, Last Night. With the exception of J. Medley, the Old Boys wing, *who injured his leg last week, and Smith, the ...Strati ord forward, who was unable to make the trip, all the Taranaki Rugby team selected for the northern tour left New Plymouth yesterday in. motor-cars_ for* Hamilton. These players were replaced by B. Mace, Old Boys five-eighths, and W. Robinson, the representative hooker., who was originally selected, but later notified that he was not available. The team arrived at Hamilton after a splendid trip about 6 p.m. and the visitors were met on arrival by Mr. T. W. Thompson, secretary of the Waikato Rugby Union. Indications point to conditions being fine for to-morrow’s game, Taranaki v. Waikato, the ground being in good order and there being very little rain.to-day. The Waikato team is a very strong one, being the same that played Britain on Saturday, save that Weo, the King Country full-back, is replaced by Cameron, Morrinsville. The Taranaki team is very strong forward, but the defection of Owen, Fookes, Brown and Medley has weakened the backs, and with the material available the selector, Mr. W. A. Guy, has had to experiment in some directions, particularly in view of the Auckland match on Saturday. However, the team should be solid on defence, and the inclusion of Collins will strengthen the goal-kicking department. The team will he given a run in the morning to give the backs an opportunity of knocking into shape, as it is an entirely new inside combination that is being tried. B. Mace is wearing a Taranaki representative jersey for the first occasion. The team is as follows: Full-back, A. Collins; three-quarters, N. Hunter, J. Crawford and R. Watson; five-eighths, C. Hunt and B. Mace; half, C. Gudgeon; rover, A. Guy; forwards, W. Robinson, P. Gargan, W. Baldwin, R. Clarke, J. Walter, R. Bond, C. Wills, The emergency backs are T. Robinson and D. Mercer and the forwards J. Young and J. Richards. Mr. Chapman has been selected as referee.
