HAWERA MUNICIPAL BAND
TO GO TO WELLINGTON CONTEST. The monthly meeting of the citizens’ committee of the Hawera Municipal Band was held on Monday evening. Mr. E. Dixon presided. The conductor (Mr. H. C. A. Fox) reported that during July 13 parades, including performances at the hospital and in High Street, were held. Owing to sickness and other causes rehearsals had not been so Well attended as usual, the average being 21. The junior band continued to improve, the membership being well maintained. One new member had joined. . It was decided to enter the band for the contest at Wellington in February next. The secretary, Mr. W. Hawkins, reported that a meeting of bandsmen had been held to discuss methods of assisting the ladies in connection with the forthcoming bazaar. The offer of Mrs. Macbeth to produce a musical revue was accepted with thanks, and a committee consisting of Messrs. J.. Champion, H. N. Lester and W. Hawkins was set up to work in conjunction with the musical revue committee.
It was decided to purchase a quantity of music.
