HOUSING IN SYDNEY
MANY EMPTY DWELLINGS. Sydney, July 24. Of about 18,000 flats in the eastern suburbs of Sydney something like 6000 are without tenants. There is a superabundance’ of these structures aliso on the northern side of the harbour and in other parts of Sydney. Many couples who have been hit by the economic cyclone have stored their household goods and taken temporary shelter with their parents. That partly explains the fact that many flats are to let. Some districts round Sydney- are placing a ban on the erection of any more flats. This seems almost ’unnecessary at present, unless there are people foalish enough to want to build them to-day.
