SALE A.T NEW PLYMOUTH. The New Plymouth firm of L. A. Nolan and Co. reports holding its fourweekly sale of hides, wool, skins and tallow yesterday. A comprehensive catalogue was submitted to a full bench of buyers. , Competition was keen for all sound lines of hides and skins. Faulty stuff of all sorts was to some extent neglected. Cowhides held at about last month’s rates with a slight tendency in buyers’ favour for good parcels. Ox hides were difficult to sell at .a drop of id- to jd on last month’s' rates. for skins was. intermittent,. certain classes being neglected, while others maintained last months rates easily. The annual report of the directors of the Standard Insurance Company states that the income from all sources for the year amounts to £309,762 19s 3d, to which has to be added the balance brought forward from last year (£19,118 12s). The surplus on the year’s operations, after making full provision for all ascertained losses to June 30, the payment of an interim dividend, donation to the guarantee '■and provident fund, depreciation of properties and the allocation of £25,000 to the reserves fund, amounts to £35,644 9s 4d.
