EFFECT ON EMPLOYMENT. STATEMENT IN DUNEDIN COURT. “I am firmly convinced that you will be able to do your duty here and receive your employment from the City Council,” stated Mr.’ Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court at Dunedin on Monday, when a juryman who was being considered for duty in a sheep-stealing case applied for exemption. The man stated that he had been out of work for three weeks and was to receive employment with the City Council that morning. If he were called to siou the jury, lie-would lose his position. “I cannot for one -moment believe that the City Council will not employ you because you are here discharging, your duty as a citizen,” replied His Honour. The applicant for exemption stated that he had been told that he would lose the position if he had to sit on the jury. “I cannot believe it,’’ reiterated His Honour. He added that it would be most improper if the City Council di:l not give him employment because ffiwas called to do duty as a citizen in the Court. The application was refused, but the applicant was not needed to act in the p'resent case. If his services are required at all, it will not be until Thursday.
