KAHIKA TOWBD TO GISBORNE. By Toleffraph. —Press Association. Gisborne, Aug. 2. . Encountering a strong southerly galo off Castle Point on Sunday afternoon the. Kahika, bound from Gisborne to Dunedin, was unable to make headway owing to a shortage of coal. The vessel, which was in exceptionally light trim, i was driven north over 250 miles off Lev course. ’ / The storm dropped on Thursday morning, the Kahika then being a few miles north of East Cape, and she proceeded to Hicks Bay without further mishap. The Kahika received a severe buffeting during her drift north, heavy seas frequently beating over the stern. The crew was placed on rations after the second day, tinned meat providing the chief food. Supplies of bread were iow, while the butter was all used. The Kahika replenished her bunkers to-day and is expected to sail to-night for Dunedin.
