MANGAMINGI MAN KILLED
APPARENTLY HURT IN EXPLOSION DEATH OF MR. JOHN GRANVILLE. A premature explosion of gelignite was apparently the cause of fatal injuries received by John Granville, aged 83, who was found on his farm at Mangamingi on Thursday - with a fractured skull, broken ribs and an injured ' lung. He died early this morning. Mr. Granville, who has been on the same farm since the Mangamingi Valley block was opened, left his home on Thursday morning to do drainage work a mile away. In the evening his son found him gravely injured, sitting on the side of the road about 4?00 yards from his work. Mr. Granville could not speak. An inquiry will be held thia morning. A justice of the peace, Mr. Granville was well-known in the district. His family is Mrs. Granville, Mr. Maurice Granville, Mrs. P. Forrester, Nukumara, Miss Ursula Granville, Eltham, Mrs. H. V. Gower, Eltham, Mrs. Berridge, Hamilton, and Mrs. McArvardy, Matiere. YOUNG TAHORA BABY DIES. CORONIAL INQUIRY HELD. The death of Jean Madaline Cadman, the 14-morith-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cadman, Tahora, was, the - subject of an inquest held by the coroner (Mr. W. L. Kennedy) at Stratford yesterday. About noon on Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Cadman noticed that their daughter was not well and as her condition became worse they decided on Thursday to bring her to Stratford by car for medical attention. As they passed through Pohokura, however, the baby died in its mother’s arms. Mr. and Mrs. Cadman continued on to Stratford where the body was examined by Dr. D. Steven and later taken to the morgue. Till Wednesday the general health of the child had been good. . Dr. Steven said he made a postmortem examination of the body and found that telescoping of the bowels had been the cause of death. It was a fairly common complaint in young children. A verdict of death from natural causes was returned. GENERAL ITEMS. Building permits totalling £6700 were issued by the Stratford Borough Council during July. Of the total, seven dwellings accounted for £5690 while three alterations and additions made up the remaining £llOO. The vital statistics for the Stratford district for July with those of the same month last year in parentheses are: — Births, 16 (18); deaths, 7 (6); marriiages, 9 (8). He will be the preacher at the 11 o’clock service at Holy Trinity Church. The Archdeacon is a Maori ■ of great experience and is an able speaker. Opposite Maynard in this, his latest picture, appears the bewitching Kathryn Crawford whose singing voice is heard in several scenes. Supporting them is the beloved comedian, Otis Harlan.
