TUBERCULOSIS CAMPAIGN

WELLINGON CLINIC'S WORK SUPERVISION OF POORER PEOPLE, VISITING NURSE’S IMPORTANCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 1. I A further step in the fight against tuberculosis was reported to the Wellington Hospital Board by the medical superintendent. He stated, that the clinic endeavoured to supervise, all eases of tuberculosis who were unable financially to avail themselves of the service of private medical practitioners, but did not require institutional treatment. The clinic also sought to protect contacts by periodic examination and preventive treatment and by an early diagnosis of the onset of the disease. ’ Much -information of great importance was obtained by the visiting nurse for the clinic. The Health Department obtained information from doctors and hospitals, also from the school medical service, which visited the homes of children who had been in contact with cases of tuberculosis and shown low-grade resistance to the disease. The hospital nurse visited the homes of hospital patients and dealt with contacts.. A recent conference arranged that where the school medical officer came across children who might be suffering from tuberculosis the case should be referred to the family doctor but,, if the parents were unable to afford such seri vices, the case would be sent* to th® clinic. A further conference is being arranged to secure the co-operation and -coordination of the work of the nurses.
