SCOTTISH BALL.

Wednesday evening ; last, cold arid clear, a delightful evening for dancing, marked the occasion of the annual'ball of the Hawera Highland Pipe Band. That the function was an outstanding success none will gainsay, for St. Joseph’s Hall was packed to capacity for comfortable dancing with 250 enthusiasts. Features warranting special mention were the splendid manner in which' the dance was conducted throughout, the spirit of goodwill and co-operation evident among those who worked so arduously for the success achieved, the horiiecatered supper set before the guests, and the decorations. The hall, was a bower of bush greens roofed in a lattice of streamers in the pipe band’s tri-colours (red, yellow and black), with their flag, and monogram brilliantly outlined in colours and a plaid in the band’s tartan (McLachlan) oieatly draped at the end wall, and the orchestra (Wills’ Melody Makers) on the platform at the other end, were almost hidden by a maze of scarlet streamers hung curtain-wise. Snugly ensconsed at the rear of the stage was a carpeted and cushioned lounge. In the new supper room, which was large enough to accomodate all those present at one sitting, the decorations were carried out in green:ory and streamers in three tones of yel-low-mimosa, deep daffodil and old gold. The -supper arrangements and catering were in the hands of Airs. J. B. I.aurenson and a. committee of ladies. Mrs. AV. G. Simpson was in charge of the decoration arrangements.
