A Wellington message reports the death of Rev. F. E. Harry, pastor of Vivian Street Baptist Church. He wa» a prominent preacher and social worker. The condition of Mr. Len Heatley, sen., has improved and he is making satisfactory progress, towards recovery. Mr. W. Honeyfield was yesterday reelected chairman of directors of the Patua Dairy Company, a positron he has' held since the formation of the company 15 years ago. Among the guests at the Imperial, New Plymouth, are; Mr. Linwood, Wellington, Miss Johnson, Sydney, Mr. G. Pickering, Palmerston North, Mr. J. Wills, Auckland, Mr. D. Bowers, Okau, Mr. J. Holness, Wellington.
Advice has been received that Mr. George Walker, son of Dr. E. A. and Mrs. Walker, of New Plymouth, has obtained his B.A. degree at Cambridge and the half-blue for swimming. From Gaius College Mr. Walker goes to Guy’s Hospital, London. Guests at the Criterion, New Plymouth, are Mr. W. E. Best, Christchurch, Mr. J. Ambrose, Wanganui, Mr. W. Yeoman, Wellington, Mr. F. D. E. Grubb, Wellington, Mr. A. Duncan, Awakino, Mr. F. R, MaiTiott, Wellington, Mr. R. W. MeKillop, Wanganui, and Mr. and Mrs. Pike, Sydney. Mr. J. Southcomb, of the Stamps Duty Department, New Plymouth, leaves on Friday on promotion to the Wellington office. Mr. Southcomb has been a prominent member of the Tukapa Football Club and has rendered service as a member of the committee. On Saturday night lie was met by members and friends of the club, and Mr. C. Brown, selector and coach, presented him with a case of pipes. Mr. Brown referred in eulogistic terms to Mr. Southcomb’s services, and while congratulating him on his promotion expressed regret that'it involved his leaving New Plymouth. Mr. G. Sullivan (club captain) also spoke, Miss C. 1. Lovell-Smith died suddenly at Sunbury-on-Thames, England, on July 23. Some years ago she was on the teaching staff of the Stratford District High School and was very popular with her pupils. With her sister, Miss H. K. Lovell-Smith, she left Christchurch some months ago to attend the quinquennial conference of the International Council of Women at Vienna. She was the fourth daughter of the late Mr. W. S. Lovell-Smith, Riccarton, and was a graduate of Canterbury College. For the last few years she had been first assistant mistress on the staff of the Technical College, Wellington, and before leaving the Dominion she was appointed 'education representative for .the conference.
