ENGINE DRIVER KILLED
TAHORA STATION ACCIDENT MUTILATED BY RAKE OF TRUCKS. FELL ON LINE WHILE SHUNTING. The driver of ths Stratford to Tahora train, Mr. 11. W. Kelly, was killed in the Tahora station yard at 7 o’clock last night, an engine and four trucks passing over him when he fell from a truck, reports the Whangamomona correspondent of |he News. Mr. Kelly was a popular resident of Whangamomona. He was 49 years of age and leaves a widow and six children. He Ijad only four years to serve before his retirement on superannuation. The Stratford train had arrived at Tahora and Mr. Kelly was assisting with shunting operations. The engine and four trucks w r ere being backed and Mr. Kelly was riding with his foot on the brake of the leading truck. Apparently he slipped from the brake and fell on the line, the four trucks and the engine passing over him. .
