NEW PLYMOUTH GUN CLUB
FIRST ANNUAL MEETING. The first annual meeting of the New Plymouth Gun Club y/as held on Wednesday, Mr. J. Power presiding over a good attendance. The secretary read a comprehensive repoi't of the activities of the club during the year. The report was adopted. The financial statement showed the club to be in a very sound position, ’assets being £46 4s and liabilities nil. Speaking to the motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. Power said it was very gratifying that the club was in such a good position after its first year. He congratulated the treasurer and secretary on the success of their efforts. It was decided, that the services of these two officials be recorded in the minutes. Mr. Power also spoke of the generosity of Mr. Coulson, Fitzroy, in granting the club the free use of his ground as a range. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Coulson for his interest in the club’s welfare. It was decided to support the proposal to form a gun clubs’ association in Taranaki. Several new clubs have been formed during the year, and it was considered necessary to have a controlling body. A special feature of the opening day for the year 1931, which will be held at an early date, is the provision of competitions for novices. Guns will be available and the clays and shells reduced to a minimuln. Trophies for’the opening shoot have been donated by Messrs. J. Power, L. Little and 0. George. Donations and trophies were acknowledged as follows: J. Power £3, W. H. Moyes £2, Dr. Adamson £1 Is, H. L. Hall £l, H. Round £l, W. Johns 10s 6d, C. H. Drysdale Cup, J. Bennett Cup, Hammond and Turner Cup, set of forks and tobacco jar, C.A.C. gold medal. Hammond and Turner have also donated a cup for teams’ competition among the gun clubs of Taranaki. The secretary spoke of the valuable help given by the newspapers in giving detailed reports of the shoots and unstinted publicity. A motion of thanks to the Press was carried. The following officers were elected: Patron, Dr. Adamson; president, Mr. J. Power; vice-presidents, nine were elected; handicapper, Mr. B. Wheeler; club delegate. Mr. O. George; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. Winiki; hon. secretary, Mr. H. Dixon; committee, Messrs. G. Jago, G. Taylor, R. Baker, O. George and J. Winiki.
