The value of co-operation was stressed at a complimentary smoke concert tendered Mr. A. Pearce at Kakaramea on Wednesday. \ Mr. Pearce considered that the present method of selling New Zealand produce was antiquated. All factories should combine and have a cold store of their own in London. Mr. O. D, Dickie said he had never lost faith in the co-operative movement in New Zealand. He would like to see more co-operation. Mr. G. H. Bell said that the interests of the London merchants and the dairy farmers were identical. There was a lot of talk of co-operation, but the best co-operation would be between the factories and the agents.

PERSONAL. Sympathy with Mr. T. Lay in hin recent bereavement was expressed at a meeting of the Mt. Egmont Alpine Clqb committee on Wednesday evening. Mrs. zH. T. Lovell, Hawera, has left for San Francisco, where she will attend a world’s conference of floriste. The Park (Hawera) Bowling Club on Wednesday evening passed a resolution of sympathy with Mr. Frank Brown because of the death of his mother. WHOSE THE HONOUR? FOUNDING VEAL INDUSTRY. : Who was responsible for the founding of the boneless veal industry in New Zealand? Both Mr. G. V. Pearce and Mr. 0. D. Dickie laid claim to the honour at Kakaramea on Wednesday evening, Mr, G. V. Pearce said that when he was in England five years ago he had gone to Smithfield, where he met the “Veal King,” who at 'the moment was purchasing 1500 sacks of veal from Armour and Co. Mr. Pearce had inquired what veal it w« 9 -c that was sold by the sack, and was told that it was bobby veal. He had made further inquiries and, on his return to New Zealand had told meat interests of the possibilities, with the result that an industry of great benefit to the Dominion had been built up. Mr. Dickie said he would like to disabuse Mr. Pearce of Iris idea that ho had started the bobby calf industry in New Zealand. Mr. Dickie himself had heard of it five years before Mr. Pearce went to England, but owing to inadequate 4 transport and other difficulties its introduction had not been an economic proposition at that time. Later fresh njethods of treating the veal had ■been discovered and ho had pioneered the operation of the Industry, through the Patea Freezing Company. Incidentally th© veal Mr. Pearce had heard ©old was not bobby veaL but a commodity that Patea had already been exporting.
