OPERA HOUSE.
TO-MORROW (SATURDAY) NIGHT., George Bancroft, dramatic star of Paramount pictures, comes to the New Plymouth Opera House to-morrow (Saturday) night in his latest Paramount production, “The Docks of New York.” The film was directed by Josef von Sternberg, who directed Bancroft in one of his greatest successes, “The Drag Net.” Included in the supporting cast is Betty Compson, who has the leading role opposite the star. Others in the cast are Baclanova, Clyde Cook and Mitchell Lewis. The story, tells of Sadie, a disconsolate soul, who attempts- to end her life, but is saved from doing so by Bancroft, a ship’s stoker. A romance springs up between the two, and how the couple ultimately find marital happiness serves to make the film surprisingly, as well as pleasingly, entertaining. The supporting programme will 'include Overseas News, Australian Gazette, Inkwell Cartoon, “Electric Railways of Victoria” (educational) and “Lay on, McDuff” (two-reel comedy).
