ENTERTAINMENTS

THE REGENT. SPECIAL -MATINEE TO-DAY, 2 P.M. “The Trespasser,” Gloria Swanson’s great talkie, will be presented again at a special matinee to-day at 2 p.m., and finally to-night at 7.45, at the Regent, New Plymouth. Gloria Swanson, with the assistance of Edmund Goulding, an excellent cast, and the best recording yet heard, has made a. wonderful production in “The Trespasser.” It is the best picture Miss Swanson has ever been in, and the best talking picture seen since the talkies made their entrance. She is an artist, and after this picture has had a' few showings this girl will be given her true, rating in pictures —the greatest actress the screen has ever known. There is a magnificent array of talkie shorts screening with this programme. Two big all-talking features will be presented at the Regent commencing tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 7.45. p.m. “Courtin’ Wildcats,” starring Hoot Gibson, is an exciting comedy drama which will be screened first. The second picture, “Gome Back to Erin,” is a melodious Irish romance which is acclaimed by critics as one of the finest stories of its kind ever presented. Morton Downey (who is hailed as a new John McCormack) heads the fine cast in this magnificent, all-talk-ing, singing sensation. . EVERYBODY’S TALKIES. MATINEE TO-DAY. 2 P.M. ' Ramon Novarro’s all-talking and singing musical romance, “Devil May Care,” will again be presented at Everybody’s New Plymouth, at a matinee to-day at 2 p.m. and finally to-night at 7.4.5 p.m. As the dashing lieutenant who remains true to his “Little Corporal” despite overwhelming odds, Novarro fights and duels his way through a romance that is vibrant with action, exciting episodes and audacious love, and yet manages to stand clear of the tedious type of costume picture that has little to recoinment it other than a bustle and a hoopskirt. Metro-Goldwyn-Maycr showed a wise discrimination in selecting Novarro for the role of the. adventurous Bonapartist, for if anyone can take a role and play it as though history were unrolling before your eyes, -this young actor can do it. There is a big supporting programme. The change of programme at Everybody’s to-morrow, commencing at 2 p.m. and 7.45 p.m., will be headed by the alltalking, singing, dancing part technicolour production, “It’s a Great Life,” starring the famous Duncan Sisters, Rosetta and Vivian, supported by Lawrence Gray and Benny Rubin. Five songs are featured in this production, which will be preceded by a splendid supporting programme including in sight and sound “Amy Johnson’s Arrival at Sydney.”
