PRIMARY SCHOOL BASKETBALL.
WAITARA WINS CHAMPIONSHIP. Waitara won the primary schools basketball championship yesterday afternoon at Waitara. Inglewood A, which held the championship banner, for, years, was beaten by Waitara •A, the final match of the competition, in which both teams had been undefeated. The play was of a- very high standard, .both teams, playing an .exceedingly fast game —finusually. so for primary school basketball. . In the first spell Waitara proved superior, notching four goals to 'lnglewood’s one. In the second spell, however, Inglewood came to the fore and had soon reduced Waitara’s lead to Waitara 5, Inglewood 4. Another five minutes of fast passing saw Waitara again score, Inglewood shortly following suit. There was no slackening of pace and no alteration in the score when the final whistle sounded with the score Waitara G, Inglewood 5. Waitara thus holds the championship banner for 1930. This team will meet the champion team from the south to compete for the Rugby Union Shield for the provincial championship. In the B grade match Waitara defeated Inglewood by 11 to 6. As a result of this match Waitara and Inglewood Convent will again meet to decide the winner of group 1.
