miscellaneous cases heard Charged with being found unlawfully on licensed premises after hours at Moturoa on July 7, Ernest A. Downes and Robert Stockbridge were fined. 20s. costs 10s, by Mr. R. W. Tate, S-M., at. New Plymouth yesterday. For using a motor-cycle which had not been registered at Oka to on June 26 Frank Jenkins was ordered to appear at New Plymouth next Court day and show cause ( why a substantial penalty should not be inflicted. Constable Mitchell explained that the bicycle belonged to a man named Martin Rowe.

“This is a very serious thing,” said the magistrate. “If that bicycle had killed anybody there would probably have'been no statutory insurance. Jenkins should appear and give an explanation. I should like to see the other man as well.”

Having left his motor-lorry stationary at the Egmont Street tram stop, Ernest Martin was fined 20s, costs 10s. For defendant counsel said that offences under the motoring code were of two classes, venial or deadly. This offence was not a deadly motoring sin. Five men who rode bicycles in New Plymouth streets at might without lights were each fined 20s and costs. The men were Albert Bray, Henry Norfolk, Thomas Curd, Ernest B. Forester and Leonard Tuffery. At the suit of Edward T. Holden, representing the Taranaki Hospital Board, a prohibition order was made against an inmate of the Old People’s Home, Alexander Johnson. Frequent complaints were said to have been made against defendant when in liquor by the' general public, the tramwaymen and the police. Charged with failing to clear their land of noxious weeds Bernard Fama and James Uhlenberg were ordered to pay costs 10s. Charges had been brought against Martini, Fama and Uhlenberg a fortnight ago, said the chief borougi inspector, and had been adjourned to allow them time to clear the , weeds. Martini had not finished clearing his land but the other two had. The case against Martini was adjourned another fortnight.
