Reductions of LI in rates on all ridings except Pohokura, where the reduction amounts to Id in the £l, were made by the Whangamomona County Council on Monday. Rates agreed to are: Strathmore riding, sd; Pohokura, 7d; Central, 9d, and Tahora, 6d. One of the series of euchre parties conducted by the Eltham Brass Band was held on Monday evening, over 80 people being present. The prizes were won as follows: Ladies, first prize, Mrs. J. Taylor; second prize, Airs. Hastings; third prize, Airs. Prince. Men: First prize, Miss Grenfell; second prize, Miss C. Prince; third prize, Air. Tucker. The concluding euche party of the series arranged by the ladies’ committee to aid the funds of the Alanaia School was held on Alonday evening. There was a good attendance and keen interest was taken in the contest for the points prizes for the series. These were won by Air. T. Butler (71 games) and Aiiss AL Symes (574 games). The prizewinners for the evening were Aiiss Vooght and Master E. Rbt’hery, with consolation awards to Aiiss Bridge and Mr. J. Cosgrove. During the series considerable assistance was rendered by Alessrs G. H. Edwards, W. Vincent and W. Budd, while ;the ladies’ committee carried out the catering- with careful attention. ‘ ‘ ■ ■ : ' ’
