POSTAL OFFICERS’ GUILD
f NEW ORGANISATION SET UP. ■ | SENIOR MEMBERS OF THE SERVICE i A Press Association telegram from : Wanganui published on Monday, reported a complaint voiced by the general secretary. of the Post and Telegraph Employees' Association as to secret meetings having been held at Wellington. When • the message was referred to him the Chief Postmaster at Wellington (Mr. J. M. McLean) said that it was quite correct that a new J organisation had been formed, called the P. and T. Guild, composed of the more senior officers of the service, which numbered between 1000 and 1200. For some years the question of forming a separate organisation had been discussed amongst many officers. Lately it was decided that the time was opportune for the formation of the organisation, membership of which would be confined to controlling officers. Branches had been formed and committees elected at, Christchurch and Dunedin, and it was proposed to hold a meeting of those interested in Wellington in order to take the same action at an early date. 'T would like to say," said Mr. McLean, “that members of the guild are not interested in Mr. McKenzie’s statements. A few days ago a meeting was held in Wellington of representative officers, and a committee was appointed to take the initial steps in the matter. It is hoped that the guild will prove of considerable use in that it will look after the interests of controlling officers generally, and especially take whatever action may be necessary to co-operate with the department in maintaining an efficient service. We feel that the formation of the guild is a natural development in such a large i service as'that of it the P. and T. De- < partment, which controls some 10,000 • ] men.” 1
