AGRICULTURAL EXPERTS
VISIT TO NORTH TARANAKI. Air. W. J. AlcCulloch, supervisor to th© Fields Division .of the Agricultural Department, arrived in New Plymouth on Monday night. He was accompanied by Air. W. Davies, plant geneticist, at present attached to the plant research station,. Palmerston North. Mr. Davies, who comes from Aberystwyth, Wales, has been attached to the staff of the Agricultural Department in New Zealand for 18 month© and leaves on his return in a few months. Yesterday the two officers were taken by Mr. J. Al. Smith, fiields officer for Taranaki, on a visit of inspection to the Katere Experimental Plot, later going to Lepperton and inspecting Mr. P. A. Openshaw’s concrete silo, which so far is the leader in the North Taranaki competition in its class. They were very much impressed with its quality and freedom from waste. In the afternoon they accompanied Messrs J. M. Smith and C. Haynes on their visit to th© Hillsborough district, taking a very keen interest in the adjudications and an active part in the discussions ~ that ensued among the group of farmers that followed the judges. Mr. Davies in particular was greatly impressed as it was the first time he had come in such close contact in a practical manner with ensilage. Messrs McCulloch and Davies leave New Plymouth this morning.
