Instructions have been given by the Minister of Health for an extension of the Health Department’s medical inspection service, at present operating throughout the primary schools, to secondary schools as soon as financial provision can be made. The new scheme is to operate on the advice of the chief physical instructor to th© Education Department as a result of his visits to secondary schools and consequent on the school medical officers ascertaining that the standard of physical fitness of applicants for entrance to the teaching profession is not as high as it should be. Moreover, the amount of remedial defects among them indicated that the supervision of the health of boys and girls in secondary schools is inadequate.
