INJURY TO POLICEMAN
CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION. By Tekgraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. What was stated to be the first case in New Zealand of a policeman receiving compensation under the Workers’ Compensation Act for injury received while he war- on his beat was mentioned In the Arbitration- Court to-day. The claimant suffered two injuries to his ankle while on duty at Freeman's Bay on the night of October 2. lie stumbled in a rut in the footpath and sprained his left ankle on November <l. He again twisted and sprained his ankle at night on the same beat. As he developed chronic synovitis entailing partial permanent disability he had to be retired from the Police Force. Mr. Sullivan informed the Court that a settlement had been reached between the parties on the basis of an estimate of a medical. referee. The claimant would receive £154 and costs,
