INTER-PROVINCIAL HOCKEY
SELECTION OF TARANAKI TEAM SIDES FOR FINAL TRIAL. The selectors, Messrs Pennington, sen., C. J. McFadyen and K. Pennington, made the following report after the first trial match played at Kaponga on Wednesday for the purpose of choosing a Taranaki representative hockey team to travel to Wanganui to play on July 26 for the Norden'Cup, held by Wanganui. Representatives from the men’s clubs of Eltham, Waitara, Kaponga, Hawera. Manaia and Otakeho took part in the match. “The game was played in wet weather, but the standard of hockey was good, there being some outstanding play by both sides. “Players obstructed too much and positional-play could be improved; players niust remember that there are ten other men in the team’ besides themselves.” The following will represent Wednesday and Thursday teams at the final trial maitch at Hawera on Thursday;— Wednesday Division.—Kehely, goal; Payne, right back; Fergus, left back; Berry, G. Surgenor, Colman (left half); McGlashan, J. Surgenor (right wing); Moloney, centre; Gray, Symmans, left wing. Thursday. —Bennett or Bennie, Foreman, Pitcher or Mcßae, Leach, G. Surgenor, Colson, W. Bennie, Morgan, R. Irwin, S. Bett, Nairn, or Grant. The Wanganui team has been challenged by Bush Union, and this match will be played to-morrow.
