DANNEVIRKE BEATS RANGITIKEI.

Dannevirke, Last Night.

Dannevirke retained the Bcbbington Shield in a match here to-day against Rangitikei by 9 points to 6. The game was played in heavy rain with pools of water inches deep in many parts cf the ground., while a short fall of snow occurred during the -game. The forwards dominated the play and Dannevirke had the territorial advantage in the first half, which concluded with the scores six to three in the visitors’ favour. Rangitikei showed dash and in the second half had Dannevirke defending desperately, the forwards coming through in short fast dashes that caught Dannevirke napping. The scorers for the winners were McKay, Mills and Crooks. The only scorer for Rangitikei was Howes, who crossed the line twice.

DONOVAN TO MEET SHACK.

A final reminder is given of the boxing match that is to take place at the Town Hall, Stratford, to-night between Tommy Donovan and Sammy Shack. This promises to bo one of the best fights ever seen in Taranaki. Both boys are as fit as hands can make them and a thrilling bout is anticipated. With the exception of Leckie, Shack gives every indication of being the toughest proposition that Donovan has had to contend with. - The much-travel-led boy from the land of Stars and Stripes* is confident of winning, but most New Zealanders will pin their faith to the Taranaki champion.
