PRODUCE OF CANTERBURY
MARKET FOR POTATOES QUIET. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The oats market is quiet, and values are a. little easier. A Gartons from the south are worth 3s. Old. to 3s. lOd. f.0.b., s.i. for prompt delivery, and for July-August-September 3s. ibid, to 3s. lid. in the few sales being effected. B’s are worth 3s. Bd. for prompt and 3s. 9d. for spread, with the market quiet. There is a very unusual scarcity of Algerians this season, and at present they are practically unprocurable. Local merchants are negotiating with Australia to secure seed to cover their requirements. Business is being attempted in this regard at ss. Sil. to ss. 9d., e.i.f., duty paid. The chaff market is steadier than for some time, and to-day sales have been made at £G 17s. JkL to £7 f.0.b., s.i., for prompt delivery, equivalent to £5 7s. (hl. to £5 10s. a ton on trucks. The potato market is quiet. Growers are still inclined to hold supplies. The price to growers remains at £4 a ton on trucks. The Vv'ingatui sailed to-day for Auckland with a much smaller quantity than was at first anticipated. Her cargo included 2S2S sacks from Tiinaru and 199 G sacks from Lyttelton, and the latter figure includes 400 to 500 sacks of seed. The Katoa is due to sail from Lyttelton to-morrow, but it is not expected that she will carry a large quantity. For the Wingatui the price paid was 955. f.0.b., s.i. The quantities in store at Lyttelton are being reduced. The forward position is easier, and today’s quotation are £5 a ton f.0.b., s.i. for Julys and £5 12s. Gd. for AugustSeptcmbers. The onion market is in the doldrums at present. The nominal price to growers is £2 10. s. to £3 a ton on trucks. Advice from Wellington is io the effect that consignments of onions from Melbourne were landed by the Mahcno. Offerings of wheat have slackened, as nearly all has been threshed and delivered. The few offerings are realising ss. lid. a bushel on trucks. Fowl wheat remains firm at (is. f.0.b., s.e., with the demand good.
