Sydney reports the death of Mr. William Short, aged 87, one of the best* known chemists in the State. He was horn in Auckland. A farewell was tendered to Mr. L. 0, 'Masters, captain of the Paeroa represeri- w tative Rugby team, at a gathering at Paeroa held to mark his departure for New Plymouth. Mr. Masters was presented with several gifts on behalf of his colleagues and friends. The death has occurred at Devonport, Auckland, of Mrs. Mary Ann Pope. Mrs. Pope, who was 93 year®* of age, was the mother cf Mr. G. H. Pope, Carrington Road, New Plymouth. The Pukekura Park Board last night expressed sympathy with'Mr. J. Wheeler be* cause of the loss of his wife and the Hon. S.’G. Smith because of the death of hie brother.
