ELTHAM PLUNKET SOCIETY WORK

The monthly meeting of the Eltham Plunket Society was held on Tuesday. The nurse's report was: Babies on books, 125; visits to homes, 50; visits to rooms, adults 122, babies 111., children 48; visitors. 2-1; total, 305. New cases, 10, Mrs. Carman reported that the shop day held on the previous Wednesday resulted in a profit of £23. 'Mrs. Carman and Mrs. Weir will meet the advisory board to discuss investing ithe money of the carnival fund. New. Members elected were Mesdames W, J. Phillips, E. Knuckcy, WallaceMajor, Blair, D. Pepperell. E. Salt, and Mr. A. L. Campbell. SWISS SOCIAL AT ELTHAM. 'Swiss rsidcuts of Hawera, Mamiia, Opunake, Kaponga, Kapuni, Stratford and Eltham foregathered at the Eltham Parish Hall oir Tuesday evening. The hall was decorated with red and white .streamers, the colours of their country. The most interesting item of the evening was the tableau of 23 young girls each representing a canton of Switzerland. Miss Butler was the queen of the ceremonies. The accordeon and concertina were played by Mr. Engelberger and Mr. Schuler, and the piano by Mrs. G. Schneller. Extras were played by Miss Leut-lrird. The Monte Carlo dances were won by Miss Ruscoe and Mr. Misheen, Mrs. Buckthought and Mr. N. Meuli. The dancing was interspersed by Swiss singing and yodelling. Competitions were won by Mrs. Burke (cake), Mr. J. Walsh (cushion) and Miss S. Butler (cushion). HUIROA NEWS. " Tho Huiroa district has experienced some hard frosts lately which have had an effect on the feed. Farmers are starting to use their winter feed already. A euchre party and dance was held in the schoolroom last Friday night and proved a success. About 50 players sat down to cards. Winners were Mrs. G. Goldup and Mr. J. Mounsel, of Kiore; booby prizes, Mrs. W. Blair and Mr. Frank Latham, Douglas. Afterwards about 20 couples engaged in dancing up to a late hour, Mr. Harry Read -being master of ceremonies. -Music was supplied by Mrs. Jack Reid. The juveniles will hold their annual fancy dress ball shortly, and it is sure to be a big success. The Huiroa school committee is proving a very live body. Special tables have been made for euchre and are much more comfortable than the old •■school desks.
