PORTFOLIO OF LANDS
MOST IMPORTANT IN DOMINION. NEW MINISTER WELCOMED. - By Telegraph.— Press Association. Pahiatua, Last Night. At the invitation of the Mayor, a large attendance representative of local bodies and the farming and business community accorded the Hon. A.E. Ransom, M.P. for the district, a civic welcome. Speeches were made congratulating him upon his appointment as DeputyLeader of the Government and eulogising his past services.. Mr. Ransom in reply said that the people had previously expressed the view that they would like to see him handling the portfolio of Lands. He really believed it was the most important of all, as the development of lands was the major question in New Zealand to-day. He firmly believed that further development of the country was the only solution of the unemployment problem, and would help to assist all other industries and commercial interests. After all, 00 per cent, of the wealth .of the Dominion came from the soil. The Minister later received numerous deputations.
