WAGES ON PUBLIC WORKS
PROBLEM FOR CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 6. Rates of pay and working conditions for Public Works employees are to be considered at a conference on June 24, when the Public Works, engineers and representatives of the employees will discuss a new agreement covering all Public Works employees on standard works. The workers will be represented by a delegation drawn from different jobs throughout the country. During the past 12 months, said Mr, Cook, general secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, to a reporter today, the men have b,?n very dissatisfied on Public Works throughout the country, particularly with regard to accommodation and the low rates of earnings by co-operative contract parties. Air told, 241 remits in support of improved conditions have been received by the Workers Union headquarters from various sections. • ‘
