GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The inquest into the death of John Biddle, aged 70, an old-age pensioner who was knocked down by a motor-car near Tariki on Thursday night, was opened at Inglewood yesterday afternoon by the district coroner, Mr. W. L. Kennedy. After evidence of identification had been taken the inquest was adjourned sine die. The Inglewood senior basketball girls conducted a euchre party on Thursday, when twelve tables were engaged. The winners of the prizes were Miss Hoverstein (first), Mrs.' E. Nicholls (second), Mr. L. King (first), Mr. R. Spurdie (second). . . ~ For the second year in succession the Inglewood school basketball team won the tournament at Manaia on Thursday. Inglewood played five games, winning the final against Waitara by 2 goals to 1 after extra time had been played.. The weekly band euchre _ party was held on Monday evening with the following results: Mrs. Mischewski 1, Mrs. Peters 2. Mrs. E. Gyde consolation; Mrs. Bocock (playing as a man) 1, Mr. Taylor 2, Mr. Tapp consolation. Mr. and Mrs. Eaves and family, formerly of Otakeho, have come to take up their residence in Inglewood.
