No information was received as to the location of tho fault ami workmen had to scctionaliso tho area to find the break. In the meantime Hawera. was in darkness and many tradespeople requisitioned .candles and' lamps. Eventually it was discovered tho fault was about, two miles south of Hawera on the Main South Road, and with tho exception of the section in tho vicinity of the break power was restored about 4.45 p.m. ■

Tho repair gang discovered a motorear almost wrapped around tho polo. Besides breaking tho wires the collision had shifted the polo and broken the cross-arm. Workmen were handicapped by darkness, but tho supply was finally restored to tho section about 6.15 p.m. The motor-car was badly damaged but there was ho sign of the driver.
