Sir Hubert Wilkins and Mr. Simon Lake, the inventor who is co-operating in the explorer’s Arctic trip, called upon the Acting-Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Jahnchc, to inquire as. to the possibility of arranging the loan of art obsolete ■navy submarine, but they received little encouragement. It was explained tliat under the London Treaty the'United State's will retain only one such craft, and this is required for experimental purposes. Sir Hubert and Mr. Lake later called oh the State Department, but it is understood. they were told substantially the same thing.
