STAGE FOLK INDIGNANT
CLERGYMAN’S CHARGES
THE CHORUS GIRL’S LIFE
ACTRESS’ HOT DENIAL
By Telegraph—Press Assn.— Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. London, May 10. Prominent actresses and managers are indignant at charges made by Canon Guy Rogers. Vicar of Birmingham, that chorus girls are being sacrificed to the “modern Moloch of luxury and license” and that the theatrical profession is often made gratuitously insulting. They deny that the girls are exposed to greater temptations and dangers than women in other walks o± life.
Edith Day expresses the opinion that English chorus girls are very charming and modest. When a show is over most of them immediately go to their homes in. the suburbs.
Margaret Bannerman says the standard of the theatre is much higher than it used to be. Chorus girls are not exposed more to temptations than girls in offices and shops.
Mr. C. B. Cochran, the well known manager, states that modern chorus girls live very healthy, hard-working lives. Julian Wylie says: “Gone are the stage door johnnies. The Canon is off the track.”
