FITZROY CROQUET CLUB.

A pleasant afternoon was spent at the residence of the president of the Fitzroy Croquet Club, Mrs.' 1. Jury? who gave a farewell afternoon to Mrs; 0. Peat, one of the members who . is shortly leaving New Plymouth to live in Auckland. ’ Mrs. Jury presented to. Mrs. Peat a token of remembrance from the members Mrs. Peat, who is (the holder of the’ second Austin trophy, was asked by Mrs. Austin (vice-president)'to retain it and she would present another one next year. •

PLUNKET WORK IN K APONG A.

Mesdames T. S. Hickey, J. N. Stephenson, T. N. Watt, A. O’Brien and Nurse Spring visited Kaponga on Wednesday and formed a branch of the Plunkett Society- there to be known as the Kaponga sub-branch to the Opunake. society. The .former Kaponga committee had resigned. There was a very good attendance and all present showed great enthusiasm. Mra. Hickey addressed the meeting and explained tha't the object of forming a new branch at Opnnake with Kaponga, Afanaia and Rahotu as subbranches had been decided at headquarters in Dunedin ami she felt euic that with the help of Nurse Spring the new branch was going to be a great success. , The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. D. Fitzgerald; vice-pre-sidents, Mesdamcs Ta’te and Gibson; joint secretaries, Mesdamcs Abbott and IT. T. Gallagher; auditor, Mr. F., W Fallows; committee, Mesdamcs Guy, Fallows, Hessell, Grey, Evans, Tyke, Law, Gibson, Tattcrsal, Stauners, Oran, J. Malone (Riverlea), J. Gibson (Riverlea), J. Kissiek (Kapuni), Benton (Aufoa), Lind and Davis (Awatuna). Mrs. Tate was accorded thanks for the splendid work she had done for the Plunket Society while president or the Kaponga branch in the Nurse Spring then gave an interesting address on Plunket work and the aims and objects of the society. It was decided' that Nurse Spring visit Kaponga on Newton King's sale days.

The Brewster Shield is of oak with a silver trefoil for the main decorative feature. -Small silver shields will carry the names of the winners in successive-years. It was purchased pn London by Mrs. Rex Brewster as a souvenir gift to' the guides - At a parade afterwards Mrs. Moinson enrolled new,guides and presented badges and service stars won during (the year. On behalf of the provincial committee Mrs. Morrison presented MiS-1-’. S. Hodson, who .is relinquishing guide work, with the rarely bestowed Thanks Badee.- A further present to Mi>. KAWAROA PARK CROQUET. •

The Kaw'aroa Park (New Plymouth) Croquet Club . closed a very, successful season on April 30 with progressive croquet in the' morning and golf cioquet in the afternoon. Notwithstanding the uncertain weather large numbers of members and -their friends were present. Presentations were made to the president. 'Mrs. Best, of a crystal vase, and to -the secretary, Aliss Irvine, a Sheaffer pencil. Airs. Jury and Airs. Briggs were both presented with a small gift as an appreciation of the work done by them during the match days. 'The prize-winners for the morning ing were Airs.-Philpott (first) and Airs. McKay (second) and for the afternoon play Miss Beal (first) and Airs. McDonald (Second). Jt is intended io hold the usual, fortnightly card parties during the winter.

EFFORT TO RAISE FUND' 4 .

The committee of the Urenui Plunket Socieitv met on Wednesday to discuss wavs of raising funds for the purpose of ‘procuring a Plunket room in Urenui and to secure the periodical attendance of lliej’hinket nurse. It was decided to hold'a dance at Urenui on May 13 and the committee has left no stone unturned to ensure an enjoyable evening. Pt was also decided to hold <i mart in the township on May 19, all being invited to help fill the stalls. The need has long been felt by those who visit Urenui of something in the nature of a. restroom for mothers and babies, and the forming of a Plunket Society, with the acquisition of a Plunket nurse will be a popular solution which must merit support. .
