TARANAKI FOOTBALLERS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—ln to-day’s issue of your paper is a paragraph which states that extreme dissatisfaction is being expressed in Taranaki at the personnel of the selected North Island Rugby teams to meet at Palmerston North next Wednesday afternoon. Furthermore, it says that Mr. McLeod considers that the dissatisfaction is justified. The fact that Taranaki defeated both .Wellington and Auckland last year is certainly no argument. In the Wellington-Taranaki match at Hawera Kilby, behind the yellow pack, was largely responsible tor Taranaki’s win. The Auckland touring side was at best a team of Auckland s second’’rankers. ' It is significant , that no mention is made of the Canterbury and Wanganui matches, , the latter resulting in a complete rout of the amber and blacks on the home .ground. McLean, a Taranaki representative last year, is chosen, and after him who from Taranaki has a claim to be among North Island’s best? Expressions of dissatisfaction will do little to assist the selectors in building up a side to cope with the touring Britishers. —I am, etc.,
