PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES
APPLICATION FOR INCREASE.

Wellington, May 9.
Representations were made to the Governmenlt to-day in support of increased salaries for Post and Telegraph officers.’lt was asked that in the clerical division the maximum should be raised from £295 to £340 per annum, and, in the general division, an increase was sought from £24o' to £290. Replying, Mr. G. W. Forbes,- said he would place the requests before Sir Joseph Wai’d at Rotorua next week. Referring to. the financial position, Mr. Forbes said the country had a difficult time ahead and that some outside business organisations were maintaining their staffs, but not without ktcrifice. He reminded the deputation that there .were many people who would like to get into the public service. One of the difficulties was in maintaining the public service in face of very hard times.
