USE OF AIRSHIPS
METEOROLOGICAL INQEIRY. With a view to having sufficient reliable meteorological data available when tli<? time comes for New Zealand to, be a port of call for'airships,'observations have been commenced by the Meteorological Office. Already, some work in connection with air currents has been done in different parts of the Dornin; ion. Aeroplanes Vill possibly’ play an important part in New Zealand’s transport system in the-future, and the information that will be secured as a result of the researches now being carried out will prove as valuable to their pilots as it will to' those in control of airships. With the coming of the airship will arise the necessity for a mooring mast, and a suitable site for it. This question was first gone into two y-ears ago. There are several considerations which affect the selection of a suitable spot. In the first place, the locality of the mast- has to be- free from hydro-electric reticulation. It has also to bo central and handy’ to a distributing centre. b»o selection of a mooring must site has yet been made, but it is understood that there are several sites meeting the necessary conditions which have received consideration from the authorities.
