Mr. G. M. Spciice returned io NewPlymouth yesterday from a business visit to Wellington. Mr. L. 11. Johnson returned to New Plymouth i’rom his tour of the. South Island on Monday evening.' A London cablegram states that RearAdmiral Hyde on Tuesday succeeded Rear-Admiral Kitson in command of the Third Battle Squadron, Mr. R. A. McMillan, Melbourne, ■ is visiting New Plymouth, He'is staying at the Criterion. Mr. James H. . Stevens, Palmerston North, who has been bn holiday in Taranaki, was a visitor to New Plymouth yesterday. On Monday evening Mr. AV. K. Morri? was re-elected to the Oakura School committee for the thirtieth occasion. He has been eight times chairman. Mr. A. A. Mitchell, a New Zealand director of Coal, Oil (N.Z.), Ltd., arrived in New Plymouth last night. He is staying at the White Hart Hotel. Mr. W. J. McCulloch, Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, who has been on a visit to Taranaki, left for Palmerston North yestcrdav.

A Greymouth message says that Mr. J.. Hughes, manager of the Blackball mine, formerly of tin Dobson mine, has been appointed an additional inspector of mines.

During, his career in the Government service Mr. Allan designed 583 bridges in the State, costing £5,00t),000. A London cable reports the death at Lisbon of the Rev. Charles Dobson, a New Zealander, Chaplain of St. George’s Church. He gained distinction in assisting Greeks and other refugees to'escape fioni the lurks, and for services during the great fire of Smyrna. ° Appreciation of the work done for the Taranaki Alpine Club by Mr. L. V. Bryant, who leaves the New Plymouth Boys’ High School at- the end of the present term to take up an appointment at V\ aitaki Boys’ High School, was expressed at a meeting of the club's executive last night.

The death has occurred at. the .Waikato hospital of Mr.. Daniel Joseph Kehely, Pukerua, Cambridge, aged 53 years. Air. Kehely was born in Taranaki, a son of Air. Daniel Kehely. He was a contractor in Taranaki for many years, and was later in business-at Kaponga. Mr. Kehely was a past master of the Alasonic craft. He. is survived by a widow and family of three sons and one daughter.

Air. T. Taylor, Ngaere school, and AJiss E. AL Burgess, Ha went Alain School, have been appointed to represent Taranaki at the annual conference of the New Zealand Education Institute to be held in Wellington on Tuesday. Air. Taylor will represent .Taranaki primary school headmasters at the annual meeting. They leave for Wellington on Saturday.
