SPENDING OF £200,000,000 URGED. “PARITY WITH BRITAIN” BY 1940. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. • Washington, May 6. Senator Britten, chairman of the House of Representatives Naval Committee, announced to-day that he would introduce a Bill for naval warcraft costing £200,000,000, which, he said, was necessary to bring the American Navy on a parity with Britain in ten years. He said he had confidential figures showing the new construction requirements for ten years called for 73,500 tons in six-inch cruisers, 150,000 tons in destroyers, 52,700 tons in submarines and 69,000 tons in aircraft-carriers.
