WAITARA POST OFFICE
PLANS FOR NEW BUILDING. A new and modern two-storey building with up-to-date facilities and conveniences t 6 • deal with the increasing business of Waitara will shortly replace the old- post office that has long outgrown the requirements of the district. For some time negotiations have been in train and a site has been procured in 'McLean Street. Plans for the new building have been prepared and tenders for its erection will be called at an early date. .
Yesterday Mr. J. Robertson, assistant secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, visited Waitara, where he met th© Mayor (Mr. E. George) and representatives of the borough council, the president (Mr. H. J. M. Wells) and representatives of the Waitara Chamber of Commerce, Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., was also present. Th© plans of the new 'building were exhibited and discussed, the Waitara representatives expressing themselves as satisfied with the building and its appointments. Speaking to a representative of the News the president of the Chamber of Commexc© stated that the building was designed on exactly the same lines as that at Waverley. While some might consider that Die design should be more ornamental they we- e very pleased with the building as a whole and particularly with th© internal arrangements, there, being twice the accommodation provided by the present building. Mr. Wells voiced the thanks of the chamber to Mr. Robertson for having visited Waitara. Mr. Robertson in reply paid a tribute to the work of Mr. Smith.
