JOINT CHORAL CONCERT
NEW PLYMOUTH ARRANGEMENTS. The visit of - the Royal Wellington Choral Union to New Plymouth to ioin with the New Plymouth Choral Society in presenting Coleridge-Taylor’s “Scenes From Hiawatha,’’ was considered at a meeting of the New Plymouth Society on Saturday, Mr. R. L. Cooper presided. Mrs. Sheat, as convener of the social committee, was appointed to the general committee. The combined concert is to take place on Saturday, August 30. The visitors will arrive .by the night express on the Friday morning, and there is to be a combined rehearsal of the choirs and orchestra on the Friday evening under the direction of Mr. John Bishop, Wellington, who will conduct the performance. The party will leave on the Monday morning . The question of billeting the visitors was discussed, and a committee set up to go into the matter, Mr. Day being th® convener. Accommodation will be required for about 80 visitors. ■ A sub-committee consisting of Mesdames Sheat (convener), Powell, Goss and Morrison, Messrs. Morrison and Campbell was appointed to draft a scheme of entertainment of the visitors during their stay in New Plymouth. ' The New Plymouth Society’s opening concert of the season, at which Weber’s opera “Oberon” is to be produced, was tentatively fixed for the third week in June, and the recommendations of the conductor in regard to the engagement of soloists were approved. Proposals were placed before the committee for increasing the number of subscribing members of the society.
