BREAK-UP OF ESTATES
HINT TO LARGE LANDHOLDERS.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Auckland, May 1.
The Minister of Public Works, Mr. E. A. Ransom, speaking in support of the United Party candidate for Parnell, defended the Government’s legislation and administration generally. Referring to the land tax, he said that last session’s legislation had been responsible for the subdivision of many large estates. He would suggest that large landowners get to work early as there might be further amendments still to deal with owners of unencumbered properties below the £14,000 limit, who were paying remarkably little taxation.
