SYDNEY FERRIES COLLIDE
CRASHED IN DENSE FOG
NONE OF PASSENGERS HURT
STEAMERS MUCH DAMAGED By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 6.55 p.m. ’ Sydney, April 30. Two ferry steamers collided in the -dens® fog that enveloped Sydney Harbour today. Nobody was injured but the ships were much damaged. The Manly ferry Curlouri struck the Sydney Ferries’ boat Kiandra nearly amidships half way between the wharf and Fort MacQuarrie. Both were travelling slowly, the Curlouri outward bound and the Kiandra coming in from Afosman. The big steel Manly boat crashed through the side of the smaller wooden ship and had her own stem slightly bent, while pieces of timber from the Kiandra were embedded in a hole in the bow plating.
Fortunately few passengers were aboard either vessel. Some of those on the Kiandra scrambled up a ladder to the Curlouri’a deck while the' ships were locked momentarily When the boats were free the Kiandra limped to the wharf and disembarked the balance of the passengers. The Kiandra was leaking badly and was towed away for repairs. The Curlouri was withdrawn temporarily for the same purpose.
