NEW PLYMOUTH BATHS

TERMINATION OF THE SEASON.

REVENUE FOR SEVEN MONTHS..

The New Plymouth municipal saltwater baths were yesterday drained, and will be closed to the public for the next five months. The revenue for the year amounted to £2OB 13s. lOd. This, however, represented only the takings over the seven-month period for which the baths were in general use. For April the receipts were £6 65., as compared with £3 15s. 4d. for April of the previous year, an increase of £2 10s. Bd. This was largely accounted •for by the comparatively warm temperatures experienced, as during April the baths averaged about 60 degrees F. The fall from revenue of the month of March ( £25 4s. 7d.) was marked, and was caused by the change to winter games, rather than colder .temperatures at the baths. The swimming clubs and the schools had practically terminated their activities by the end of March. Early morning swimmers, said the custodian, Mr. E. Meuli, showed the greatest disinclination tc cease the morning swim, but when compared with the number of seasonal swimmers, the former were comparatively few, and would not effect the revenue greatly. It was strange, said Mr. Meuli, that a greater number of New Plymouth residents did not avail themselves of the opportunity of taking a course at the hot salt water baths. Interviewed by a News reporter yesterday a lady visitor from Masterton, who had been taking a course at New Plymouth baths, said that although she had visited all similar baths in New Zealand she had never been to a clearer or better conducted bath. The medicinal value of the baths was undoubted, she said, especially in eases of insomnia and rheu in at-ism. Following is the baths revenue for the season.
