AMAZING ELECTRIC STORM
AUCKLAND WOMEN TERRIFIED.
By Tciegrajh.—Press Association.
Auckland, April 30.
Yesterday’s electrical storm was one of the worst ever experienced in Auckland, where such storms are very rare, consequently a great deal of alarm was felt. The storm struck the city about 2 o’clock.
A woman seated at a desk near an open window was thrown from her chair by the concussion. Another ' woman emerged from a shop to see a flash of lightning sweep over her head, and the shock caused her to faint. So violent and so near was the disturbance that women in the street screamed. In the Auckland Electric Power Board area two transformers were fused, and other electrical appliances were affected in a similar manner. The lifts _ in one building stopped while travelling between the floors. There were several instances of electric lights being fused. A crack appeared through the whole length of a window of premises in Shortland Street. * The disturbance was accompanied by heavy rain.
