FAST DESTROYERS BUILT
BRITISH AND CANADIAN NAVIES.
By Tolccraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.
London, April 28 The naval correspondent .of the DailyTelegraph, describing the Acheron, the latest destroyer added to the Navy, says its speed is nominally 40 miles an hour, but it is likely that the Acheron will establish a record for warship speed. She is the greyhound of the sea, carrying 130 officers and men, and four 4.7 in. guns in addition to eight torpedo tubes mounted on quadrangle .carriages. Thus she can discharge the heaviest salvo of torpedoes of any destroyer in the world. Similar to the Acheron are two destroyers for Canada, H.M.S. Saguenay and H.M.S. Skeena, which have a stronger framework than the Acheron owing to their liability to cruise in iceinfested waters. The Canadian destroyers are costing £670,000.
