TARANAKI COAL FOR TARANAKI PEOPLE.
Not so long ago people who bought coal looked upon it as “just coal.” In some coal they recognised certain general differences such as a little more warmth, less ash, but here it was generally, that their knowledge ended. . But to-day is a different story. ' The public know there are standard tests by which the quality of coal can be ascertained. These tests are executed by chemical analyses and actual practice conducted by certified analytic chemists upon whose word the public know they can' depend. The local coal, which the nearness of Egmont Colleries makes available to the people of Taranaki, has been analysed by the; Dominion Analyst. It. is the fixed carbons and the volatile hydro-carbons that are present in any coal which constitute its value as a heating agent. When the quantities of these carbons and hydrocarbons have been attested it is a comparatively easy matter to express its heating value in British Thermal units. Egmont coal possesses 11,880 British Thermal units per lb., an exceedingly good result, proved by an analysis. Taranaki people will now be able to support a Taranaki industry with confidence. The advantages of' such support do not end with just the warmth from the fire in the grate, but employment for Taranaki people is provided, and Taranaki money kept in circulation within the province. “Taranaki Coal for Taranaki people”— Buy Egmont Coal!
