DID VANITY CAUSE MURDER?
EXTRAORDINARY CONFESSION.

: A suggestion that the Dartford Heath murder waa z the outcome of vanity was made by counsel when the accused, Albert Edward Margeram, wae again before the court. Police Inspector Read produced a confession in which Margeram was credited with saying: "I did not know the girl and 1 did not moan to kill her.” It wae revealed that he confessed to the Reading murder, but it wae proved he wae not connected with it. An extraordinary murder was committed at Dartford Heath, in Kent, on April 12. Evelyn Parker, aged 23, was walking with her younger sister Joan across the heath when a man sprang out from some bushes. He pushed Joan aside and stabbed the elder girl in the back. The knife penetrated the victim’s heart. The man instantly disappeared. A search by a large force of policemen, defectives and civilians resulted in the discovery of the knife in the bushes.
Subsequently Margeram, who lived at B ’vedere, wa-s detained at Erith. He was charged with the murder at the Dartford Police Court. When asked to plead he said: “J am very sorry it occurred. I never intended to commit murder.”
