LEPPERTON SALE OF WORK

ACTIVITIES OF LADIES’ GUILD.

RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS.

Once again the ladies of Lepperton showed yesterday that anything the ladies, of the district undertake they carry out with a thoroughness that spells success. Certainly the annual sale of work and exhibition held in the Lepperton hall by the ladies’ guild” of St. Mark’s Church proved an outstanding success. There was a large attendance of settlers and their wives and families, whilst New Plymouth and Waitara were also represented. Among those present were Archdeacon Gavin, vicar of the parish, and Archdeacon Evans (emeritus).

In officially declaring the sale of work open, Archdeacon Evans congratulated th. Lepperton ladies on the success of the . function. Never, he said, had he seen such a large attendance, and even though the show had not been officially opened they appeared to have done wonderful business. He was pleased to take the first public opportunity of. congratulating his successor, Archdeacon Gavin, who, he said, was indeed a most worthy successor. The well stocked stalls were a tribute to the productivity of the district and the industry of the members of the ladies’ guild, who must have been recompensed for their hard work by the keen demand that set in. The stalls, together with the numerous competitions run by a bevy of young ladies, and the attractive side-shows, added considerably to the proceeds/ Those in charge of the stalls were: Work, Mesdames W. N. Ackland and E. W. Wheatley; produce, Mesdames P. A. Openshaw, P. Sampson and A. Mace; cake, Mesdames R. F. Giddy and Frank Sampson; sweets, Mrs. W. Clark, Misses G. Ackland -and G. Not only were the entries large, but the quality was so good that the judges, Mesdames C. H. Burgess and Franklyn Whyte, had no light task in making the awards. This aspect of the sale of work appears to be growing to such an extent that the ladies of the district might serious-. ]y consider holding an annual show.
